We live in Illinois. Everyone in our family who drives has an Illinois driver’s license. When we need to have a license renewed we visit the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles location closest to us, which also happens to be in Illinois. And a friendly State of Illinois DMV employee assists us with this task. And so my son, who in addition happens to attend the University of Illinois (yes, also in Illinois), visited just such an office earlier this week
The friendly DMV employee asked him all the necessary questions, and he supplied the appropriate answers. And of course Illinois DMV has come a long way in its utilization of technology, which helps it improve customer service to Illinois taxpayers. So, when asked for his email address, my son gave not a second thought to providing the one he most often checks, his Univeristy of Illinois student address, which goes something like mzxxxx@illinois.edu.
The friendly DMV employee looked up a bit perplexed. “Could you spell that, please?” she asked. “Spell what?” my son inquired. “Illinois,” was the response.
Hmmm…
